Tasha Tudor Day

When asked by Clarice of Storybook Woods to remeber the life of Tasha Tudor today and commemorate her birthday, Aug. 28 I whole heartedly agreed. You see, I have followed Tudor’s life since I was quite young studying her delicate illustrations of animals and Victorian life.  Later on I fell in love with her simplistic way of living on her Vermont farm captured by the photography of Richard Brown in the pages of “Victoria Magazine”. Tudor was dedicated to the lost arts of ” ‘Heirloom Crafts’ including candle dipping, weaving, soap making, doll making and knitting. She lived without running water until her youngest child was five years old.” (Tasha Tudor and Family)

Tudor inspired me to live outside the confines of my generation and current era. For  a girl in the late 1990′s whose heart and head were keeping house in the 1890′s, her life gave me courage to make those Victorian ideals a new way of life. Of course today many folks are finding solace in the simpler way of life, trading in time in front of a TV for creative crafting. Wouldn’t it be neat to think that the life of Tasha Tudor might have a small part in this new dynamic? She would be so proud!

So as you take your tea, read a book, bake goodies or begin to sew remember the life of Tasha Tudor today.

In what ways do you break from technology and return to simple living?

On holiday in France I always try to live simple for a ]while; the outdoors, great company, good food, lovely wine… what else do you need?

Thank you for reminding me of Tasha! I too was enchanted with her and her way of life as a young girl, particularly those Corgis!

YES!!!! Why did we never have a “T-squared” day?? Love her. One day I plan to have two Welsh Corgies and name them “Tasha” and “Tudor”.

LOVE this post. :) Glad you’re almost home, sweet one. So much to chat about! :)

  • Tasha Tudor is so inspiring. I watched a great video biography of her that my daughter and I found in the library. She believed that she was reincarnated and that she previously lived in the mid 1800′s, which is why she was so drawn to creating a life that mirrored that period. She had an extensive collection of original clothing from that era and wore those dresses everyday. I am also fascinated with the dollhouses and miniature realities that she created.
